Hello Beautiful

Ceo & Founder of Southern Charm Teacakes

It was on or near Christmas day as I recall, I was around the age of 3 when I VIVIDLY remember my Aunt Faye (My father's sister) saying, "Her voice will be heard all over the world". I had no idea the impact that my aunt's words would have on me that day, and even now. I am clear that she saw something within me that no one had ever seen before. I can still see her face staring back at me today. Imagine me, a little girl, sitting on the living room floor of my paternal grandmother's wood frame home in the small town of West Columbia, TX.

I had spent the morning opening gifts and told onlookers that I could remember who got me what. Meaning, I felt in my spirit that I had ability to do something that others may have never heard of. I even remember thinking, "Say what now?" Because in my mind there was no way that I would be able to recall who had purchased what for me in order without hesitation.  But I did, and I truly think when I gave that declaration that may have the first time that I ever heard the voice of God.

Though it was my aunt who had recognized that I had a gift, I was far too young to nurture it on my own however my mother spared no expense in preparing me to become the woman that I am today. I owe her BIG! Thank you Mom; I love you.

My mother introduced me to both Girl scouts and charm school.  Though I was not much of an athlete, she also signed me up for softball and any other sport that would spark my interest.  My mother once sewed a dress so that I could be the narrator for the main character who had the lead role in a high school play.  When I entered my first pageant, she had a woman sew for me a gorgeous Purple and gold gown; I won 3rd runner up. My mother also paid so that I could become a model at Barbizon in Houston, TX as well as in our local modeling agency Artis' Couture. I played both the violin and the clarinet and I also attended dance for ballet, tap, and Jazz. My beautiful mother was and still is extremely creative and is quite the crafter, as too am I.  there is truly nothing that my mother can not do! She is a great cook, a perfect host, and a problem solver all rolled up into one.

My father was a community activist who served on our local Martin Luther King committee. He was a well-known thespian, sharp dresser, deacon and someone that people absolutely loved even if they had only had one encounter with him. He was a life changer who was also a beacon of light. My father loved to dance and for the most part he always had a smile on his face. My father could sing with his favorite genre being gospel; and just as myself; my father no doubt loved The Lord,

As life would have it I graduated high school in 1991 then attended cosmetology school where I obtained my cosmetology license and practiced doing hair for a couple of years. I would later marry my two children's father and after thirteen years of marriage and a few years prior of courtship we divorced and I became single again.  In my mind I was free! or so I thought. â€‹A couple of years later I married again soon realizing that I had not taken the time that my soul needed to heal.

It was within my first marriage where I learned that I could write a book; but it was in high school where I experienced my first publication of poetry.  I had "the juice" all along but life circumstances smothered me leaving me disregarding and/or forgetting who I was. Life happened and I felt stuck. But God!

After years of me working on myself by way of journaling, doing extensive mirror work, praying, meditating, working out and just truly connecting with God, I was on a mission of self discovery with a goal to become better so as to not be bitter. I have been a deep thinker for quite some time but it would not be until many years later that I would begin to hear and experience the voice of God again.

After my separation and before my final divorce I would then write my first book that I entitled "Herstory". I had become a published author who would soon thereafter be asked to speak on stages. One of my greatest accomplishments aside from producing several poetry shows as well as performing within them, was when I was contacted by a professor who taught at both Prairie View University as well as The University of Houston who asked if she could utilize my book within her psychology classes.  Though I had never attended a college class, I would soon be asked to not speak at just these two but I was asked to speak at a third.

I have spoken at colleges as well as churches. I have spoken at women's conferences as well as in small intimate settings. I have hosted many poetry events, had even become a quite sought after Poet, who had also become a songstress & an ambassador for the original Nudred sponge. I have been featured on the website of essence Magazine as well as Jet Magazine's website where I would be featured for writing my description of beauty in 50 words or less. My entry ended at a perfect 50 words;not 47, not 49; but 50, I wrote 50 words exact.

God has confirmed my gift to me on many occasions. I am CLEAR that I am a poet, who later became an author, who then became a speaker followed by an entrepreneur who now bakes Southern Charm Teacakes. I am a chosen vessel who has been called to empower, encourage, enlighten, inspire and ultimately IGNITE the soul of God's people.
